Copeland

Eat, Sleep, Repeat

(Militia Group)

Record Review by Alexis Roberts

Eat, Sleep, Repeat is undoubtedly Copeland’s best album to date. Clearly, they were good before, but now they have crossed the line from good to really good. Eat, Sleep, Repeat is the kind of album that will stick rather than play relentlessly for a few weeks before you move on to something else. What I am trying to say is that it will be in your five-disc changer for a long time.

If we face the honest truth, their previous CD, In Motion, was a decent little album but it felt like some of the songs were just filler between the catchy emo-pop hits that got quite a bit of air play on Fuse TV. Although it was not Copeland’s first release, it was sort of treated that way because it was the song “Pin Your Wings” from In Motion that got more people interested in them. Nobody can deny catchy emo. Whether they like it or not, they are going to know the words.

Now we come to Eat, Sleep, Repeat only to find that it is much more like their first release, Beneath the Medicine Tree. That album was emotional rock. It was a genre-defining album as far as I am concerned. Since they have come back to their roots and sort of ditched the pop songs for the piano driven sentimental songs they are better than ever.

Listening to Aaron Marsh’s voice over his piano playing is like falling in love for 3:30 during every song. It’s so sweet, you get to do it 11 times in a row, and nobody gets hurt. Does it get any better than that? I think not. Speaking of love, “Love Affair” is one of the most pronounced songs in their repertoire, and it is 5:31 of elegance, definitely a must-hear song, and Eat, Sleep, Repeat is a must-hear album… DO IT !

Hopefully you will be able to fall in love with them before their tour starts in February. It looks like they are starting and ending in California, hitting all of the major cities from coast to coast, and they have some dates in Canada as well. Go see them; they wear sweater vests and it’s awesome.
