See You On The Moon!

Songs for Kids of All Ages

(Paper Bag)

Record Review by Alexis Roberts

BROKEN SOCIAL BABY SONGS!!!!  This is a compilation of the cutest music ever!  These songs were written by an all-star line-up of your favorite artists for kids and parents alike to be able to enjoy together… but if you are still just a big kid at heart (like me) you will fall in love with it whether you have kids or not.

The opening track, “Be Nice to People With Lice” by Low’s Alan Sparhawk, may leave your scalp itching, as he sings about being a youngster with lice, and losing his friends—but his pals laugh hysterically in the background as he sings, keeping it light and silly.  Sufjan Stevens sings a song about Jesus—not a shock, but it’s a great song, filled with acoustic guitar, lulling female backing vocals, and twinkling bells and flutes.

Montag created three short instrumental tracks for the album that are used as interludes and are very lullaby-like.  Broken Social Scene gives us their rendition of “Puff the Magic Dragon,” Hot Chip sings a soothing out-of-character ballad titled “I Can’t Wake Up.”  The Apostle of Hustle has a song called “24 Robbers” that scared the shit out of me; I have a feeling it might scare a little kid even more.  It’s a menacing goth-techno song with little girls chanting about robbers coming to the door.  Tell me that’s not terrifying.

Other artists on this compilation include Rosie Thomas, The FemBots, Mark Kozelek, Great Lake Swimmers, and many others.  See You On The Moon! is 17 sweet songs and you don’t have to worry about your little ones repeating the lyrics at school.
