The Jack Stafford Foundation
Long Live Love
(self-released)
Record Review by Thomas Hillard
This quirky acoustic male/female duo produces mellow tunes that are
reminiscent of the guitar-based folky music that was first introduced
in the early '60s. Jack Stafford and Jasmine Wynants complement the
sounds of the airy and free-flowing guitar style used by Jack with
their pleasing yet charmingly desperate vocal talents. Acoustic music
fans have hit a jackpot upon purchasing Long Live Love; the guitar work is
simple enough not to be overbearing, but at the same time an escape from the normal basic chords that are associated with a majority of
acoustic performers.
The ability to harmonize and give soulful depth to the two-man band
is a feat that has been elegantly mastered by both members. As they
break out into periods of strong melody that is heartily embraced by
both Jack and Jasmine, you are shown a passionate meaning to the
emphasized words in these original songs. A clear statement is made
when it is called for, and the messages of the songs are conveyed
with great impact.
The Jack Stafford Foundation’s Long Live Love explores a more powerful and
rhythmic side to this band’s repertoire of sounds, and at the same
time expresses an homage to feelings familiar to anyone and everyone who has ever been in a relationship. This Amsterdam native band sounds like a European Bob Dylan but with a female touch and modern twist. Their influences are vast, ranging from The Rolling Stones to
Hole. Long Live Love is perfect for winding down at night time, cruising on a
sunny day, or any time you need a calming escape.
